Standardized Testing can be of value to a school district and to the state dept. of education in terms of a broad brush look at how things are going in reference to a set of objective guidelines. That being said, standardized testing can lead to maniacal decision making when the results are taken out of context and seen as the only means of looking at a district’s level of effectiveness. Region One has always kept results of standardized testing in proper perspective, never gloating when results exceeded the norm nor panicking and making foolish excuses when the results weren’t what we had hoped. The idea of administering standardized tests to six year old’s could only come from “experts” who have never set foot in a first grade classroom. It appears that in recent years major educational decisions are being made by people who couldn’t teach a dog to bark.
