Residents say Region 1 fails in listening skills Budget defeats reflect voter anger BY ALEXA GORMAN REPUBLICAN-AMERICAN Reply

FALLS VILLAGE — After five failed votes, the Region 1 Board of Education held a budget workshop Wednesday to hear comments from the public.

The board proposed a $3,057 increase to a $14,449,342 proposed budget. This would decrease spending by 1.63 percent.

The fifth budget proposal, which was rejected by 144 votes, would have decreased spending by 1.65 percent.

Comments heard at the meeting suggested a repeat theme of this contentious budget season: Residents feel the administration and school board are not listening to their concerns. Champ Perotti, vice chairman of Region 1 Athletic Fund, said the community’s outlook on the schools is reflected in the outcomes of the votes.
