Here we go again! Evidently the number of kids with 2 or more NYPs is “large” in this vicious cycle of chaos. See the note below from the High School!

Subject: Step Two Notice as of 3/20/18
Dear Students and Parents,
As we explained recently, every fifteen school days, we are monitoring the progress of our students toward being proficient in courses, and today was the end of the second reporting term of the third marking period.
As of today, you have more than two NYPs for the third quarter, and are being placed on Step Two. This means that you must demonstrate your efforts to become proficient in order to maintain your eligibility for sports and extracurricular activities.
You can do this by keeping a Progress Report (see below) with you that must be signed by teachers to vouch for the fact that you spent at least four hours of time with them in Flex, Open Table, or some other time to work on learning the material.
Again, the purpose of this is to make sure that you are learning material and putting in the necessary effort to stay on top of your learning. We want everyone to be successful, and we need you to complete this responsibility in order to help us help you.
Please see your PLP teacher or come to the APO if you need a paper copy of the report, and you will submit it to themon or before April 11, when we review grades again. If you have resolved your NYPs at that time, you will no longer be on Step Two, but if you do not demonstrate effort on your Progress Report, you may move to Step Three, which would make you ineligible to compete in athletics and extracurricular programs, and could involve changes to your schedule to address the problem.

So were is the problem? Is it that we have had such a lazed system before that people can’t handle the way it was years ago? Then again, we didn’t have all that kind of warning to get help so readily aviable. How about a real problem that was discussed at North canaan. DRUGS!!!!!! What is the county’s biggest problem? Are people saying not here and just not wanting to except that YAA, we do have the problem but I just don’t want to confront it. The NYP system is not the problem with the help extended to the students. Re-listen or listen to the example Mr. Ellington gives………Boards of all schools take his lead and implement a program that every single person on the pay-roll of region one and the students WILL be tested at random and with out warning when necessary. Refusal,,,your done, user you get help with a progessive report of being clean. A SELLER look forward to prosecution. There are people in our systems that have no idea what it is like to be employeed were EVERYONE is tested in Phycological ,Drugs, and Lie Detector tests every 6 months at a job. Fail one thing and your off premises. The recomentations of the drug test at the Canaan Board meeting SHOULD be the foremost subject being implemented.
The solution to NYP is there. Are they being used? The Drug problem is there. The solutions, are not being used.. If you do not address the PROBLEM,,,You can NOT fix the PROBLEM.
The school’s end of the NYP deal was that the administration and teachers would improve contact with student patents. The newly anointed principal Strever promised that parents would be kept up to speed by teachers. This has not been happening. Another example of leadership lack of proficiency!
The New England accreditation people have been successfully hoodwinked and left town. Now the high school can get back to the business ignoring students and families as they focus on their sprint towards this wacky version of Progressive education.
Not to be smart, what you’re saying is that 15 days ago the first report didn’t go out? How many people didn’t receive it? If some people go it,,,there’s another problem! If nobody got it, then everyone should be asking the question; “WHY”? Honestly; I keep saying were is the problem because all I see are at the most 2 other people besides myself on this page. The other 2 people are maybe the same , they go by ANONYMOUS. So if 2 people are the contributors to this page then as I once said about the Kent board meeting. If you don’t have at least 51% of the people behind you, nobody is going to listen to anyone with great interest. What did the High School have at the 133 meeting? Maybe 30 people? Thats a total of Parents , students, and a couple teachers. That shows a lack of interest. I’m sorry, Change is tough,,,,Sports and other activities is second to grades, just as it always should have been. Believe me,,,,,Sports were and are a big part of my life, Leadership and Team work is so important in life. But grades get the job. If I was on the teeder-toter in school and threaten to be off the team or couldn’t go to my JOB because of my grades. My Boss would even say. Get those grades up,,,,you don’t come to work , you don’t get payed for lost of time. I had a car payment and insurance to pay for, That’s 4 problems. Grades, Sports, Work, & Money. My Mother or Father didn’t go to school for me, It was my responsibility.
If you have so many people behind you,,,,,if you didn’t get the notice, then everyone should ask why? And I am sure you will get an immediate answer. What is the student body? ( H.S. ) Maybe 385, Parents total about 760, Educators about 35?? Do you see what I’m saying? About 1,200 people of interest, and 30 people show up. Your lucky the Administrators gave their time to explain each and every question at your request.
